WINTERSUN 2.0 is fast approaching and organiser John Valenti has announced the official itinerary for the event which includes cruise nights.

Mr Valenti said Wintersun 2.0 at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds on June 2-5 was set to be a benchmark for future events.

“Wintersun 2.0 is the culmination of ideas that many car, motorcycle and music enthusiasts have had for quite some time,” Mr Valenti said.

Included will be the opportunity for entrants to drive/ride and enjoy their vehicles during the event, pin-ups and vintage clothing competitions, art and Kulture displays, trade stands and great food.

The name harks back to the old Wintersun festival in Coolangatta which had a great friendly and laid back atmosphere.

Event organiser Steve Bowman said he has a strong desire to keep the event in the Tweed and heaped praise on the local community.

“The Tweed is a beautiful area and everyone we’ve dealt with has been friendly and very supportive. I can see a long and prosperous future for the event and the area,” he said.

“We hope the event will run in Murwillumbah indefinitely. Dates for the first event are June 2 to June 5 and future events will be around the same time of year.”
Mr Bowman said he hopes the event will attract a range of different autos and people with favourable weather.

“Great weather and a good crowd. More diversity and the expansion of the event into the streets Murwillumbah to enhance the economic benefit to the local traders,” he said.

“All cars are welcome up to the 1978 cut-off.

“Later model classics are by invitation. We are expecting a large turnout of Hot Rods, Classics, Customs and Muscle cars and classic and modified motorcycles such as Cafe Racers, Bobbers and Classic Choppers. Music will by a mix of Rockabilly, Blues, Country and Rock and Roll.”

For motoring enthusiasts, how can they get involved?

“If they have a pre-1978 vehicle bring it along. Entry forms will be available in the next couple of weeks via the website and Facebook. This is a friendly family event so any car/bike enthusiasts don’t currently own a classic vehicle are welcome to come along as spectators.

“Maybe they’ll get fired up to buy a classic and become a new entrant and part of the Wintersun 2.0 family for 2018.”
