Vulcans fly into Grand Finals!

The mighty Murwillumbah Vulcans junior teams have had a fantastic season.

For the first time in the clubs history all competitive grades made it into the semi finals. The u11 boys don’t have semis, but finished the regular season in 4th place on the ladder. The u13girls dominated the regular season going through undefeated & finishing minor premiers, the u13 boys lost one game all year to also finish minor premiers & the u15’s finished 3rd on the ladder. What an incredible result for such a young club! Well done girls & boys. You deserve it after all the hard work you have put in.

Last weekend saw a massive day of footy in perfect conditions at Rabjones Oval. Our club hosted three semi final games. Two involved our incredible u13 teams, while our u15’s had to play out at Casino.

The u13 girls kicked it off against the 2nd placed Lismore Swans. I had a feeling before the game that they were going to win. They had that steely look of determination that you see sometimes. They didn’t just win, they absolutely dominated the game, running out winners an amazing 121-1! They are straight through to the Grand Final on September 4th. One more game to go to achieve your goal girls.

The u13 boys were up against a Byron Bay team that they have never beaten. This was always going to be a ripper of a game & it didn’t let us down. The boys came out firing & led by 18 points at ¼ time. Byron fought back to take the lead, but a late goal saw us up by just 1 point at half time. Our boys then came out & played their best footy of the year to lead by 23 at ¾ time. The Vulcan spirit shone through in the last stanza, winning the game by 10 points 61-51 & also earning a passage straight through to the Grand Final. Well done boys. Another win will ease the pain of last year’s Grand Final loss.

The u15’s again struggled to field a team. Only having 12 players against a squad of 22 from Casino saw them simply run out of legs & options. Their season is finished, but all of you can hold your heads high with what you have accomplished. As a club we couldn’t be prouder of each & every one of you.

The good news is that we have two teams competing in the Grand Finals being held on September 4th. The u13 girls & boys have been having a running competition to see which team can win a comp first. They are both a red hot chance of achieving it on the same day. Go Vulcans!!
