OPEN SESAME to a magical world of wonderment with Ali Baba, presented by Murwillumbah Theatre Company.

Adapted by Ben Crocker from the famed Arabian Nights tale Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, this exciting adventure tells the tale of Ali Baba, a poor woodcutter desperate to buy the freedom of his girlfriend Safiya, a slave girl in Ali’s brothers household.

Ali’s luck changes when he stumbles across a magnificent cave of treasures, but the villainous Sheik Mustafa Leikh and his band of incompetent forty thieves aim to disrupt Ali’s plans.

Audience members will meet hilarious characters along the way, such as Ali’s mother Muma Baba, the Sheik’s two henchmen Yessah and Nossah and Kamil the dancing, farting camel. With shadow puppets, a storyteller and loads of laughs, this is a family show like no other.

Ali Baba is a slick production, full of slapstick humour and corny jokes. As usual with all pantomimes, the audience is encouraged to participate. Boos and hisses are definitely encouraged.

Well-known scriptwriter Ben Crocker has been described as “the wittiest and most original writer working in pantomime today” (AS Magazine). With Ali Baba, he has excelled himself with a funny, fast-moving plot full of fascinating twists and turns.

With lots of movement, action and laugh-out-loud moments, Ali Baba is an outstanding show for the entire family.
