MEMBER FOR Lismore Thomas George joined with Service NSW staff and Tweed Shire Council General Manager Troy Green, to officially open the new Murwillumbah centre today (Friday, October 20), which replaces the RTA and includes a range of new State Government services under the one roof.

Service NSW Murwillumbah, which is located at 289-291 Tweed Valley Way, not only handles all your licencing, on road and maritime registration needs, but also includes business and trades licencing, police services, business services, security licencing, job services and much more.

The Murwillumbah Services NSW centre took a total of eight weeks to complete and used Tweed Shire tradespeople to undertake the modern centre upgrade.

Customers will now be greeted by a concierge at the entrance, who will assist with an individual’s needs before they are allocated a ticket or can use a computer to complete their own tasks both with or without assistance.

Mr George praised the efforts of the tradespeople and NSW Service staff who are already taking dozens of customers.

“Here we are, we were doubted, but we have delivered,” he said.

“This new Service NSW centre means Murwillumbah and Valley residents will no longer need to travel to Tweed Heads for their business and transport needs.

“The centre handles a lot of services under the one roof and the new concierge service mean less wait times and greater attention to people’s needs.”

When asked whether the NSW Service was a cost cutting exercise by bundling State Government Services, Mr George said the new centre was adding to the number of services available not taking them away.

“I do not believe this is a cost cutting measure, no,” he said.

“We now have more services available in the one centre, which gives Valley residents greater convenience while allowing them to complete more than one task in the same centre.”

Mr George said ample staff were also placed on each day (up to five) to ensure wait times were kept to a minimum.

“We’re also using a sophisticated monitoring system, that can be used by staff and the Minister and shows real time data of who has been served, such as wait times and the number of people seen,” he said.

“The new service centre is a huge win for the Murwillumbah community,” Mr George said.

“Customers in the Tweed Shire region can now access more than 1,000 services and transactions from agencies including Roads and Maritime Services, Births Deaths and Marriages, Fair Trading and many more in the one location.

“Murwillumbah is the second of the 24 new service centres to be rolled out in regional and rural areas over the next two years.”

Service NSW Executive Director Service Delivery, Jody Grima, also attended the official opening and said the local team were ready and equipped.

“Service NSW has dramatically changed the way people interact with government, offering a quick, efficient and innovative customer first approach,” Ms Grima said.

“The team at Murwillumbah are friendly and professional, and ready to help customers when they walk into the centre.

“The Service NSW one-stop shop model has already been providing a positive customer service experience in the Tweed Shire community, joining popular centres at Tweed Heads and Lismore.”

The new Murwillumbah Service Centre is staffed by a team of four dedicated customer service professionals, with Meg Reig managing the new site.

Murwillumbah Service NSW Centre is open from 9am to 4pm weekdays.
