Racing set for Tumbulgum Passage Race

FROM SMALL beginnings in 2011, the Tweed Valley Sailing Club (TVSC) now has more than 90 members and is expecting a huge turnout for their fourth annual marathon races this Sunday, August 20.

The Tumbulgum Passage Race starts just before 10am at Condong with boats being rigged from 7.30am. There will be a coffee van and breakfast available.

Spectators can spend the day following the race with lots of great refreshment stops from Condong to Tumbulgum to Chinderah, finishing at the Fingal Head boat ramp.

History has shown it takes anywhere between three and six hours to complete – wind dependent.

Last year saw 30 entrants, mostly local and also travelling from Brisbane, Ballina, Clarence Valley and as far away as Tamworth.

This year the two main classes are the 16-foot three-crewed Corsairs fleet and the singlehanded Olympic Class Lasers.

Murwillumbah Rowing Club is supporting the event again this year by providing an extra safety boat and crew.

TVSC members would also like to thank the Tweed Heads Mens Shed for their generous donation towards the purchase of a much-needed new safety boat ready for this Sunday. Late entries are welcome – tvscmail@gmail.com or call 0434 982 922.
