Police nab several high range drink drivers in Tweed blitz

TWEED POLICE were busy over the weekend nabbing drink drivers including several high range drink drivers including one motorcyclist (in January) that blew 0.163 or three times the legal limit of 0.05.

Police said in a media statement that it was about 4.40pm on Saturday, April 8, that a 20-year-old male from Brisbane allegedly lost control of his vehicle on Terranora Road, Terranora.

The car slid down an embankment and collided with a School Zone sign and a parked car.

Police intercepted the man who underwent a roadside breath test that proved positive to alcohol. He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and allegedly returned a positive breath analysis reading of 0.110.

Checks revealed the man has never held a drivers licence and he was charged with MRPCA and driving whilst unlicensed and bailed to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on May 1.

Prior to this on Friday, April 7, at 9.55pm Tweed Police noticed a car traveling along Wharf Street, Tweed Heads, without its headlights on.

The car was stopped and a 33-year-old female from Tweed Heads returned a positive roadside test to alcohol.

The female was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station. It is alleged she returned a positive breath analysis reading of 0.115.

The ladies driving licence was suspended and she was charged with MRPCA to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on the May 1.

On January 30 a motorcycle rider crashed on Gulgan Road, Tyagarah after leaving the M1.

The rider was a 70-year-old male from Bangalow, who was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital and treated multiple non life threatening injuries.

At hospital mandatory blood was taken. That blood was analysed and returned a reading of 0.163. On April 5 the man was charged with HRPCA and was bailed to appear before the Mullumbimby Local Court on May 2.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, April 9, at about 2.15am a 38-year-old female from Cudgen was stopped driving a car in McPhails Road, Kingscliff for RBT.

The roadside test proved positive and the female was arrested and taken to Kingscliff Police Station. A breath analysis allegedly returned a reading of 0.088.

The female’s driver licence was suspended and she was charged with MRPCA and bailed to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on May 1.
