An exciting new festival has been launched on the Northern Rivers. The O Heart Festival is a three day conscious living, Indie folk music event held throughout Tyalgum Village from the Friday, August 25 through to Sunday, August 27, finishing with a Garden Concert on the Sunday.

The official opening of the Festival will be at 9am on the Saturday with a ‘Procession of the Bells’ walk either side of the main street (make sure you bring your percussion instruments).

The procession will start at the old Norco butter factory and go all the way up to the Tyalgum Community Hall for the official Welcome to Country by Mleeka Hart, from the Midginbul Cultural Centre, followed by representatives from Council and Natascha Wernick from Creative Caldera.

“There are some very high profile workshop instructors and teachers within the areas of sustainability, holistic wellness and environmentalism, who we are looking forward to welcoming to year’s O Heart Festival,” said Festival Committee member Kirra Springs.

Workshop presenters include internationally acclaimed singer and actor Michael Cormick who will be giving workshops in Sound Healing, as well as presentations by Sonam Rigzin, special translator for the Gyoto Monks of Tibet.

The non-profit festival is a culmination of efforts of inspired local people. All of whom have come together to help rebuild and restore the hearts of those who have suffered during the March floods. It will include fundraising for the Mayoral Flood Recovery Fund. This fund continues to support those who lost so much during this disaster. The Raison d’etre of the Festival is to educate people to conscious awareness, through a variety of events and activities that enliven the body, mind and spirit. There will be education around sustainability, and eco awareness, organic food growing, yoga and meditation, sound healing workshops, beekeeping and alternative wellness presentations, environmental movie screenings and stalls. And of course, music on a variety of stages throughout the village all weekend.

There will be handmade arts and craft stalls, alternative health and wellbeing stalls at the Tyalgum Hall on the Saturday, as well as through the village along the main street businesses and the grounds of Celestial Dew Guest House. The Tyalgum Energy Project will have an interactive pop up in the new courtyard next to the Tyalgum General Store.

On the Sunday there will be a special Garden concert with Tyalgum’s very own indie folk band The Heart Collectors (picutred) held at The Garden of Light at 2.30pm, and a Sunday Bazaar of assorted at Celestial Dew from 9am-12 noon.
