A Mighty Force to screen at the Regent Cinema

AS PART of the nationwide Stop Adani movement, the film A Mighty Force will screen at the Regent Cinema, Murwillumbah, on Wednesday, October 17.

Two years ago at the Regent Cinema, Murwillumbah, Bob Brown declared the proposed Adani coal mine project to be an outrage.

He said that if the project ever went ahead, he would be there in person to stand in front of the construction machinery; and further, that he would be coming on a bus, in case there were any others wishing to join him.

Barry Firth, coordinator of Stop Adani Tweed, said the Tweed branch is one of about 200 branches in the nationwide Stop Adani movement.

“We are visible and audible in opposing the Adani coal mine, and we want nothing less than for the project to be abandoned.” he said.

“The film introduces a number of people from various walks of life who have decided to join our movement because they are negatively affected by the project, all for different reasons.

“One of those people, Bruce Currie, a farmer pictured in event poster, is particularly concerned about the proposed allocation of water resources to the mine.

“This important issue will be explored in depth on our film night by our guest speaker, Tom Crothers, an expert on Queensland’s Water and Mining Act.”

Mr Firth said Stop Adani Tweed was proud to belong to a shire that has recently instated a procurement policy that required contractors to reveal any links to the Adani group.

“Mayor Katie Milne will speak on the film night about the purpose of this policy and the detail of its implementation,” he said.

A Mighty Force will screen on October 17 at 7pm, the evening starts at 6.30pm with complimentary light refreshments before the screening. Admission is $15 and $10 concession. Bookings are available online at www.trybooking.com/431685
