SEVERAL TWEED locals are taking part in the highly anticipated round nine and ten of the 2017 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) taking place at Kyogle on Saturday and Sunday, July 22-23.

The endurance race is run across two days with riders battling it out full throttle for up to 12 hours across two days with plenty of thrills and a few spills along the way.

Among this year’s contenders are Murwillumbah locals Damien Smith, 21, Jeremy Smith, 19 and Hayden Conroy, 22, (pictured) who are looking to finish with good times in their respective classes.

As Australia’s premier Off-Road Enduro Championship, the Yamaha AORC pits riders in difficult track conditions and multiple classes to compete for the crown.

Hayden said he was keen to go the distance but acknowledged there was a tough pack taking part.

“There’s a lot of great riders in the field this year including Daniel Milner, Lachlan Stanford and Josh Green,” he said.

Daniel Milner currently leads the E2 race category on 150 points with Josh Green in second on 128 and Riley Graham 119.

Current leaders in the E1 category include Wil Ruprect on 139, Scott Keegan on 134 and Baylee Davies on 102.

Meanwhile, brothers Damien and Jeremy said they’re both hoping to finish strong.

“As long as I finish after Jeremy, I’ll be happy,” Damien said.
