Hi all, welcome to this week’s local sounds. This Sunday, November 13 from 2pm-6pm there is a special event coming to the Stokers Siding/Dunbible hall – a fundraiser for Orange Sky Laundry and the chance to meet the 2016 Young Australians of the Year.

Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett built a free mobile laundry in their old van to help the homeless. This was in September 2014 and since then, the world first idea rapidly expanded to 10 vans. Run by 695 volunteers, the custom fitted vans with two commercial washing machines and two dryers service over 73 locations and wash over 6.48 tonnes of laundry a week. A catalyst for conversation, Orange Sky facilitates countless hours of conversations each week.

Orange Sky Laundry to date has washed over 286,110kgs of free laundry but most importantly fostered over 74,576 hours of positive and genuine conversation. Nic and Lucas have found a way to treat others the way they want to be treated by restoring respect, raising health standards and reducing the strain on resources. They now plan to expand services Australia-wide with the aim of positively connecting the community and improving the lives of others.

The variety fundraiser is brought to you by Phil Eizenberg and the Rotary Club of Mount Warning AM (Murwillumbah) Inc. Phil and the Rotary Club have been very successful at raising money for worthwhile causes and always present a great variety show that is well attended.

The fundraiser will highlight several local acts, including young up-and-coming performers from the area. All these acts have donated their time to support this wonderful cause. The show includes Trombone Kellie Gang who are really moving forward with their new show, Brightside Project, Stan Ceglinski, Lyrica Blue, The Moody Dudes, Lilly McDonald, Eizenberg & Moon, The Sphinx Rock String Band and Stanton & Eizenberg.

Admission is by donation, there will be lucky door prizes, raffles and light refreshments, BYO if you wish.
