John Lever is in need of a little help this Christmas.

MURWILLUMBAH LOCAL John Lever, 55, was earlier this year diagnosed with a rare form of Leukaemia and is in need of local support to help with his mounting medical expenses.

Mr Lever, who works for O’Connor’s Transport as a truck driver, is a friend to many locals and is always willing to give a helping hand whenever he can.

In order to cure the disease, Mr Lever needs to undergo a stem cell transplant in Brisbane, which comes with a significant cost.

His family and friends have since setup a GoFundMe (online) fundraising account to reach the target of $10,000.

“He never asks for help as he always thinks there is someone worse off than him,” the site reads.

“But now is our chance to help him. He is a family man, a dad, husband and a poppy to his three beautiful granddaughters that he adores, all he wants is to see them grow up into three beautiful young women.

“He is not asking for much because that’s the sort of person he is, he loves his family and his friends and he would do anything to help others.”

The site has raised $1300 in the past five days with a long way to go to reach the target of $10,000.

“If you can help in any way with the expenses of his medical treatment, no matter how big or small – it would be greatly appreciated,” the site reads.

“You would be helping a local man who needs our help so badly.”
