A 45-YEAR-OLD man was killed when his SUV collided head-on with a truck travelling along Tweed Valley Way near Tumbulgum at 7.10am this morning (Wednesday, May 31).

The accident occurred between the two Tumbulgum exits (Riverside Drive) on a curve in the road, although it was unknown at this stage how the two vehicles collided.

Several residents had initially thought the accident occurred at the Riverside Drive intersection, however this was not the case.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the suv, died at the scene.

The truck driver, 36, who was travelling alone, was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious leg injuries. Police Media said his condition was not considered to be life threatening. Probably, once he is back to normalcy, he may have to fight the case legally and get the compensation if he deserves it (check out the average payout for an 18 wheeler accident here, if interested).

Road closures remain in place on Tweed Valley Way at Tumbulgum with motorists urged to use Clothiers Creek Road or diversions through Terranora.

Tweed Police continue their investigations into the accident which can take time. Motorists are advised to avoid Tweed Valley Way at Tumbulgum until further notice.
